General guidelines are being provided so that there is consistency throughout the website, and to avoid duplicates in people, media, and places.

Gedcoms
gedcoms may not be uploaded

Places
Places are to be three levels, and not to include addresses.  They should be city/town(ship)/village, then county/province/state, and then the country.
Churches are to be St. (name) if applicable and then the three levels. ie. St. Peter, town, county, country.
Cemeteries that belong to a church should state the church name and then churchyard, and then the three levels. ie. St. Peter Churchyard, town, county, country. Notice that an "s" was not placed on the end of the church's name.
By using the magnifying glass, you can search to see if the place name already exists.
The United Kingdom is not a country, and the United States of America should be entered as USA.
The place location should be what it was at the time. ie. Lewisham did not become part of Greater London until 1889. Records prior to this should state Lewisham, Kent, England.

Dates
Date is to be the number, first 3 letters of the month, and then year. ie. 30 Jun 2025
Do not use the baptism date as the birth date. Use the abbreviation Bef.
You can do the same for a death date if you only know the burial date.
If you know the burial location, but not the death date, you can enter Aft.
Enter the year if that is all you know.

DNA
If you connected a DNA match, mark that as a reverse association (see video). Presuming the person is living, viewers will not be able to see your DNA matches.

Media
Backup media is to be provided, if possible.
Best practice is to stay within 1200 pixels max.
If in doubt, look at the existing naming conventions for media.
Census images should be the year, country, the word census, town, county/province/state, folio, page. ie. 1871 England Census Alton Barnes Wiltshire Folio 20 Page 6
As names are often duplicated within families, certificates, or images should state the person's ID number, their first and last name and then the media item. ie.  ID 52 Robert Montgomery Birth Record. ID numbers are auto assigned by the system. This also ensures no document overwrites on the server.
Media tags are great for group photos, but not necessary. (see video)
If you have saved an image from another website such as Ancestry or Find-a-Grave, etc., be sure to state that. (see video) Do not take credit for photos that you have found on another site.
The locations for saving media is called Collections. When uploading birth, marriage, or death certificates, they are to be uploaded to the BMD collection. Censuses to the Census collection.
Media should be linked to the appropriate person or family.
You have the option of marking your media as private if you do not want your media, for a deceased person, to be shown to the general public. Recommendation is to keep private any vital documents if someone from the generation below is still alive.
For those unfamiliar with England and Wales records, they can be downloaded through the GRO, however, many times the images are cut off in areas. It is not considered a bad image unless illegible.

Sources
Sources can easily be found in multiple online platforms. Due to this, a source can be a place and type. ie. Devon, England Baptisms or California, USA Deaths.

The administrator reserves the right to re-size or re-label documents to conform with the above.
If you prefer, information can be sent to info at egis2025.com and the information can be added for you.  Credit will be given to you.
